Regional Conference on Money in Politics

Ms Veronika Bílková, member of the Venice Commission in respect of Czechia, participated in the Regional Conference on Money in Politics, which took place on 16 and 17 June in Chișinău, Republic of Moldova.

The 2026 edition of the conference, “From Virtual Money to Real Influence”, focused on protecting electoral integrity in a rapidly changing environment.

Ms Bílková intervened during a session on “Harnessing Technology for Oversight of Electoral Integrity” and moderated a session on “Peer to Peer Exchange - Strengthening Political Finance Oversight in Practice”. During her intervention, entitled “Artificial Intelligence and Electoral Integrity: A Rule of Law Perspective”, she stressed that: “The Venice Commission does not approach AI in elections from a position of fear. AI is not inherently incompatible with democracy. In fact, AI may serve democracy, but only if it remains subject to the rule of law. This means transparency, accountability, human oversight, respect for fundamental rights, including equality and effective mechanisms of review and redress. These safeguards are not obstacles to innovation. They are the conditions that make innovation legitimate, trustworthy, and compatible with democratic elections.”

This conference series provides a platform for peer exchange and strategic dialogue at the intersection of political finance, electoral security, and digital resilience.
