The Venice Commission of the Council of Europe is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Mr Valentin Georgiev, Co-Chair of the Joint Council on Constitutional Justice and Secretary General of the Constitutional Court of Bulgaria.

Mr Georgiev was an active and dedicated participant in the work of the Joint Council on Constitutional Justice, where he had served as Co-Chair since 2021. In this capacity, he also made a significant contribution to the work of the Bureau of the World Conference on Constitutional Justice.

Through his role as a genuine liaison in the field of international cooperation, Mr Georgiev demonstrated not only a remarkable ability to foster dialogue among institutions, but also a profound commitment to upholding the principles of the rule of law and constitutional justice.
