On 16 June, Mr. David van Weel, Minister of Justice and Security of the Netherlands, signed the Council of Europe Convention against Trafficking in Human Organs, known as the Santiago de Compostela Convention.

There are now 16 States Parties to the Convention and other 14 signatories, including the Netherlands. This signature demonstrates the country’s commitment to combating organ trafficking and upholding fundamental rights.

This significant development comes on the heels of the 8th plenary meeting (9-10 June), during which the Netherlands demonstrated its commitment by attending in person.

The Convention remains open for signature and accession to all States worldwide, reinforcing the global response to this crime.
