During a two-day training programme in Tuzla, police trainers in Bosnia and Herzegovina refined their communication and presentation skills to better equip them for training cadets on conducting structured interviews and managing public order in accordance with international human rights standards.

The Train-the-Trainer programme took place on 28 and 29 January 2025 in Tuzla, involving 24 police professionals who will be responsible for the ongoing training of police cadets. For the first time, the programme incorporates a long-term mentoring scheme to support trainers in applying their skills over time.

Developed by 11 experts from various police agencies, the training builds on previous initiatives by the Council of Europe and the European Union in this field, including the development of manuals on police interviewing and the policing of public gatherings.

This initiative is part of broader efforts to modernise policing in Bosnia and Herzegovina, ensuring the continued professional development of the police force, aligning training practices with international standards, and reducing allegations of ill-treatment in custody.

The two-day training programme was organised as part of the action „Further strengthening the treatment of detained and sentenced persons in line with European standards in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, funded under the joint programme by the Council of Europe and the European Union, „Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye,“ and implemented by the Council of Europe.
