Newly appointed judges and prosecutors in Bosnia and Herzegovina completed a structured and continuous programme of human rights education that began with the induction training in 2024. The programme comprised a series of specialised training sessions delivered under the Human Rights Training Curriculum, ranging from applying anti-discrimination standards in judicial processes, to the protection of property rights.

The aim is to strengthen the capacity of newly appointed judges and prosecutors to apply European human rights standards stemming from the European Convention on Human Rights consistently and effectively in their professional practice.

Twenty-three of them attended the concluding training seminar held in May 2026 on the right to property and the European Convention on Human Rights. It provided participants with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the Convention standards governing the peaceful enjoyment of possessions, deprivation of property, and control of the use of property.

Particular attention was given to the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights, key principles developed by the Court, and the positive obligations of the state in protecting property rights. In addition to expert presentations and case-law analysis, participants engaged in practical exercises and simulations designed to strengthen their ability to apply Convention standards in their daily judicial work.

The round table discussion was held as part of the Council of Europe project “Support to a coherent national implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights and facilitating execution of ECtHR judgments in Bosnia and Herzegovina - Phase II”, which is funded through the Action plan for Bosnia and Herzegovina for the period 2026-2029.
