Prisons and Probation: Sharing and Refocusing Knowledge and Practice

The 27th Council of Europe Conference of Directors of Prison and Probation Services “Prisons and Probation: Sharing and Refocusing Knowledge and Practice” was held at the Barcelo Hotel, in Sevilla (Spain) on 21-22 June 2022. It was co-organised with the Spanish Secretariat of Penitentiary Institutions.

The Conference was organised in plenary sessions and in workshops and the topics related to the selection and management of staff, to prison design and architecture, to equal access to services for women and to dealing with mental health. Under the different topics the use of AI was also considered. The data collected for the 2021 edition of the Annual Council of Europe Penal Statistics SPACE II were presented and in addition the interpretation and the use by the Directors of SPACE data related to prisons and probation were considered.

The Conference was opened only to invited participants: Directors of the Prison and Probation Services of the Council of Europe member and observer States as well as representatives of the European Union, the United Nations, the European Organisation of Prison and Correctional Services (EuroPris), the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA) and the Confederation of European Probation (CEP).
