The Observatory on History Teaching in Europe (OHTE) is calling on history teachers across its 19 member states to take part in a short survey that will feed directly into the next OHTE General Report on the state of history teaching in Europe.

The General Report is a longitudinal study examining how history is taught across Europe, developed using a methodology established by the Observatory's Scientific Advisory Council (SAC). The first report, released in December 2023, drew on responses from 6,521 teachers and provided the first comprehensive, evidence-based picture of history education across member states. As successive reports are produced, they will allow for a dynamic, evolving overview of history teaching in Europe - revealing changes and trends over time.

This edition of the survey focuses on one specific aspect of teaching practice: how teachers use teacher notes, websites, and databases - to prepare lessons, during class, or for homework. These resources ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively among the most used by teachers in the 2023 report, and OHTE wants to understand not just what teachers use, but how and why.

The survey is open to history teachers in all 19 OHTE member states - Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Cyprus, France, Georgia, Greece, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Portugal, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Türkiye, and Ukraine - regardless of whether they teach in a capital city or a rural school.
