On March 12, the Norwegian Minister for higher education, Iselin Nybø announced Norway will increase its support for the European Qualifications Passport for Refugees (EQPR) to 1 million NOK (approximately 100 000 Euros) in 2019 because of the good results obtained by the project. Since the launch in 2017, 319 applications have been assessed and 249 refugees have obtained the EQPR.
Anwar Horani, a Syrian refugee and the first recipient of the EQPR, recently obtained a job in a field related to her education background (see an interview with her, in Norwegian). Since her qualification is in physiotherapy, which is a regulated profession, Anwar Horani will still need to obtain authorization to practice as a physiotherapist, and this will take some time.
The Council of Europe recently organized the first evaluation session for the EQPR in France, and marked the occasion with a public event in Strasbourg, in cooperation with the UNHCR and the City of Strasbourg.
