On Friday, 16 November 2018, the Council of Europe and the European Union Office in Kosovo/EU Special Representative co-organised a High level Conference under their joint Project against Economic Crime in Kosovo (PECK II).
The Conference aimed at presenting the assessment results of Kosovo’s compliance with evolving European and international standards in the areas of anti-corruption, anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism to a wide range of high-level domestic and international stakeholders, civil society and media.
The assessment process undertaken by PECK II follows a well-established methodology of the Council of Europe GRECO and FATF/MONEYVAL, and includes a peer review provided through expertise of Council of Europe experts, adapted where necessary to take account of specific domestic needs.
This assessment process has been carried out in close coordination with and support from the respective domestic agencies (Kosovo Anti-corruption Agency and Financial Intelligence Unit). In addition, extensive cooperation with a wide range of beneficiary institutions across Government, Office of the President, key executive agencies and law enforcement authorities, judiciary, prosecution and financial sectors, etc. has been achieved throughout the process.
The findings of the assessment reports which will be published shortly will form a key part of Kosovo’s EU integration agenda. Their recommendations will help Kosovo’s institutions to make further progress in strengthening institutional capacities and improving the regulatory framework in the areas of combating corruption, money laundering and the financing of terrorism, in accordance with European and international standards.
