Congress President addresses the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities of Serbia: “decentralisation is a collaborative process”
Speaking at the 44th General assembly of the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities of Serbia on 24 November, Gudrun Mosler-Törnström, President of the Congress underlined the importance of the reforms on decentralisation undertaken by Serbia. ”The Congress is strongly supporting this process in all member States and my participation in this meeting today shows the attention we grant to the work of national associations of local and regional authorities” she said, praising the strength and efficiency of the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities of Serbia. In a bilateral meeting, Minister of Public administration and local self- government, Ana Brnabić, confirmed that decentralisation must be achieved in close cooperation with the Standing Conference. Ms Mosler-Törnström presented the Congress monitoring and post-monitoring dialogue as “very helpful instruments that central authorities should use on their way to develop local self-government and promote capacity building of local authorities”. The Congress will organise a regular monitoring visit to Serbia end of February 2017. Minister Brnabić also invited the President to pay an official visit to the country in January 2017.
