Council of Europe to receive Future Policy Bronze Award at an event in Belgrade next week

The Council of Europe will receive the Future Policy Bronze Award 2019 on the 16th of October in Belgrade, Serbia on the margins of the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s 141st Assembly. The award will be given to the Council of Europe’s co-management system in the youth field. Snežana Samardžić-Marković, Director General of Democracy, will represent the Council of Europe.

In 2019, the Future Policy Award has celebrated policies related to youth empowerment that advance young women and men’s access to decent jobs and stimulate their civic engagement and political participation. In 2019, 67 policies from 36 countries, regional and international level were nominated for the award for their activities on empowering youth. Eight candidates from all over the world have been shortlisted for the award, including the Council of Europe.

The co-management system in the youth sector is a unique practice developed by the Council of Europe, where elected representatives of some 30 youth European NGOs and representatives of governments and public authorities responsible for youth issues make decisions and shape policies together in the Joint Council of Youth. Among its priorities, the Joint Council supports young people’s access to rights, youth participation and youth work, as well as promotes peaceful and inclusive societies.

The award is organised by the World Future Council, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The ceremony is open to accredited media and will take place on 16 October, from 14h30 at Sava Center in Belgrade (Hall 1/0 (ground floor), Building A; Milentija Popovića 9).

Journalists should register in advance, by end of day of Monday, 14 October, by writing to [email protected], copying [email protected] and [email protected]. Contact telephone for accreditation: +381 11 3026 193; +381 64 8420 326.
