On 18 June, a delegation from the Department for the Execution of judgments met in Berlin with the German Execution Coordinator and her team, from the German Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection, as well as representatives of the German Federal Ministry of the Interior, to discuss the German cases pending implementation before Committee of Ministers. The meetings provided an opportunity to reaffirm the excellent cooperation between the Department for the Execution of Judgments and the German authorities which has contributed significantly to the reduction in the number of pending leading cases in recent years (12 leading cases closed for supervision by the Committee of Ministers in the last 18 months).
During their visit to Berlin, the Department also held meetings with the German Institute for Human Rights (Deutsches Institut für Menschenrechte) and Amnesty International Germany. It also met with the President of the German Bar Association, Mr Stefan von Raumer, to discuss elements of the execution process and explore possibilities of German lawyers or the Bar Association to be engaged in that process through the submission of Rule 9.1 or Rule 9.2 submissions.
