The Roma and Traveller Division continued to support the strengthening of the police response to racially motivated crimes against the Roma and Travellers in Hungary.

Building on similar activities aimed at enhancing police capacities in Hungary,  the Roma and Travellers Division in cooperation with the Hungarian National Police, the Department for the Execution of Judgements of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) and the Government Agent of Hungary to the ECtHR, has taken another step in strengthening the police’s ability to address racially motivated crimes.

From 6 to 9 October 2025, a training-of- trainers course brought together 26 senior investigators from across Hungary. The training focused on equipping participants with tools and methodologies drawn from the Council of Europe’s Toolkit for Police Officers, ensuring that the knowledge gained will be further disseminated to peers.

This follow-up training placed particular emphasis on practical application and peer-to-peer learning, enabling investigators to share experiences, confront challenges, and develop strategies tailored to the realities of policing in diverse communities.

The capacity-building activity reflects the Council of Europe’s ongoing commitment to supporting member states in upholding human rights standards and combating discrimination in all its forms.
