Bucharest is the capital and largest city, as well as the cultural, industrial, and financial centre of Romania.

With its 1.883.425 inhabitants, Bucharest welcome one third of the migrant population of the Country. Non-nationals make up around 1% of the total population, and the largest minority groups are Chinese, Hungarian and Turkish representing respectively 0.22%, 0.19% and 0.17% over the total population. On the other hand, Romani population, only the fourth biggest group in Bucharest, is perceived by the population as the most represented in the city.
