Indietro Welcoming and social inclusion of newcomers in the city

Purpose:

Valladolid promotes social inclusion and respect of the human rights of asylum-seekers and migrant people living in the city. Besides guaranteeing the reception of newcomers, the Council supports them in their access to their full citizenship.

Process:

For the reception of asylum-seekers, the City Council is collaborating with social entities such as ACCEM,Red Cross and Procomar Valladolid Acoge. In addition, regular and periodic coordination is maintained with other social entities that provide care to this sector of the population in the city.

The city works on the cession of housing to the social entities supporting Ukrainian refugees, and established economic collaboration with non-governmental organisations, both in Ukraine and other countries in conflict.

With the objective to facilitate Spanish language learning for newcomers, the city financially supported four projects implemented by social entities.

Furthermore, to further facilitate integration, Valladolid organised training courses aimed at immigrant people and providing them with information on the historical, socio-political and cultural context of Spain and the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León.

Impact:

  • The average number of people assisted by the different resources with municipal support is around 400 people (2019-2023).
  • Annually, Spanish language learning projects are supported through a call for grants. Depending on the projects subsidised each year, the number of people benefiting from these actions is usually around 1,000.
