Purpose: Neuchàtoi is an ongoing campaign and dialogue platform aimed at developing an open discussion on how the city of Neuchâtel has evolved in terms of its identity and intercultural relations over many years of immigration.
Stimulus/Rationale: The Neuchàtoi association, set up as a community foundation, initiates and promotes various activities of public interest in the field of social cohesion and intercultural relations.
Process: NeuchàToi is held every three or four years around a specific theme. In 2006, the first year, the debate focused on Neuchâtel's identity. In 2009, the theme was young people, in 2013 it was diversity in public life and in 2016 it was secularism and religious pluralism. The fifth event was due to take place in 2020 on the theme of the Canton of Neuchâtel's tradition of openness, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of its intercultural integration policy, but was postponed to 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. NeuchàToi is now at the top of the cantonal agenda. As part of the discussions leading up to the 2021 event, the organising committee analysed the various aspects of the 2020 theme to see to what extent they could be taken up again or whether adjustments would be necessary depending on the situation and the needs of social cohesion and solidarity at the time.
