Intercultural Academy for Communicators – What story does your city tell?

Which story is your city telling? Is it a story that reflects the diversity of your citizenry? Does it include the residents who make up the city, the creativity they bring and the interactions they create on a daily basis? Is your story showing how attractive your city is, precisely thanks to its diversity? The intercultural city is an inclusive place where residents get the opportunity to participate and thrive. Your city’s actions to create the opportunities for participation, intertwined with the complex identities of the individuals who create the fabric of the city, are core pieces of the intercultural puzzle. Yet telling that story can be challenging. For intercultural inclusion to occur, city authorities shall adopt a clear and well-publicised message emphasising their commitment to intercultural principles, at all occasions, in all their communication. Every story can become intercultural in a diverse city and contribute to achieve a climate of public opinion more conducive to positive intercultural relations.

The Intercultural academy on alternative narratives and intercultural communication is a unique opportunity to bridge that gap between policies and communication, to get useful skills on positive narrative creation, as well as knowledge on the principles of inclusive communication and storytelling. It also offers a chance to build alliances and common understanding between practitioners working on intercultural policies implementation and communicators who should voice the intercultural transformation of the cities.

Through the Academy, member cities will find inspiration for proactive communication, new channels to share the intercultural message as well as ideas on how to integrate the message of inclusion into their everyday communication.
