On 18 March 2026, two important meetings took place in Chisinau to advance the work of the European Social Charter system.
The Governmental Committee of the European Social Charter and the European Code of Social Security (GC) held an extraordinary meeting to discuss ongoing work and developments within the framework of the European Social Charter.
Discussions focused in particular on enhanced dialogue as well as on stocktaking of the reform of the Charter system and reflecting on the current and future role of the GC.
There was also a discussion of a draft recommendation aimed at raising awareness of the Charter system.
Following the extraordinary meeting, a joint meeting between the ECSR and the GC took place, to discuss the implementation and future development of the European Social Charter system.
Discussions focused on the implementation of reforms introduced by the Committee of Ministers 2022-2023, particularly in respect of the reporting procedure designed to strengthen the monitoring of social rights across member States. The exchange highlighted both the opportunities and the challenges associated with the updated framework, as well as possible ways to improve follow-up procedures.
Another important topic was raising awareness of the European Social Charter. Participants reviewed the follow-up to the recent recommendation on education about the Charter system and shared their views on adopting a further recommendation aimed at strengthening public awareness of the Charter, the ECSR’s conclusions and findings and the work of the GC.
During the meeting, the two treaty bodies also exchanged experiences on enhancing dialogue and cooperation between their respective bodies, exploring ways to further develop their collaborative work.
