Ceremony around the replica of the commemorative stone in memory of the victims of poverty

The Conference of INGOs of the Council of Europe anticipated the celebration of International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, which takes place each year on 17 October, with a thematic programme in Strasbourg, on 10 October 2023 at 10:00 am.

In collaboration with the Permanent Representation of Ireland to the Council of Europe and Ambassador Caitríona Doyle, an information board was uncovered in front of the Palais de l’Europe with the message in English of the Human Rights Stone against Poverty.

Christos Giakomopoulos, Director General of Human Rights and Rule of Law, in his speech underlined  that "There can be no human dignity without equality, and there can be no real equality without solidarity, mutual respect between all human beings and the recognition of social and economic human rights. Human dignity is the basis, the very source and the ultimate goal of all human rights, including those enshrined in the European Social Charter."
