School Teachers trained by Pompidou Group launched peer to peer trainings on Evidence-Based Drug Prevention Approaches in Georgia

A series of peer-to-peer training sessions on the prevention of psychoactive substance use were held on 11, 12 and 19 October 2025 in Tbilisi, bringing together over 44 teachers and school principals from 44  schools of Tbilisi.

Since the launch of the Project in 2024, co-operation with Teachers’ Professional Development Centre has enabled the dissemination of evidence-based  prevention knowledge across the school system and various schools of Georgia. To date, 22 teachers who had previously completed an intensive training of trainers’ programme by the Pompidou Group have already passed on their experience and lessons learnt to a wider group of their peers.

Through these peer-to-peer sessions, key concepts of prevention, evidence-based programmes, as well as to international and European standards in drug prevention have begun to be integrated into the daily work of teachers, their professional understanding of the topic, supporting the long-term sustainability and wider institutional ownership of the curriculum.

The three trainings were organised within the framework of the Council of Europe Pompidou Group’s Project “Strengthening the Role of Key Actors in Drug Prevention”, in co-operation with the Teachers’ Professional Development Centre of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.

The process has been closely supported by the Pompidou Group, which has provided continuous supervision and feedback to the trainers. This support will enable them to further expand the dissemination of knowledge through additional trainings to be organised with support of the Teachers’ Professional Development Centre of the Ministry of Education and Science in the future.

These trainings were organised by the Pompidou Group Project ’’Strengthening the Role of Key Actors in Drug Prevention’’ implemented under the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2024-2027.
