The Pompidou Group organised the Steering Committee Meeting of the Project “Strengthening the Role of Key Actors in Drug Prevention” in Tbilisi. The meeting brought together all project partners and stakeholders for co-ordination objectives and exchange of information. The aim was to review the progress achieved since the launch of the project in July 2024 and discuss the follow up steps.
In the framework of the meeting, the Pompidou Group presented an overview of the project’s logical framework, fulfilled, ongoing and planned activities, highlighting key achievements and strategic priorities for the upcoming implementation phase in 2025. The meeting was followed by the Q & A session and the discussion.
The present Project builds on the results and lessons learned from the initial, first initiative “Developing a Drug Prevention Support Network for Parents and Professionals in Georgia” and continues providing international expertise and technical support to Georgian authorities for translating Georgia’s first Drug Prevention Strategy (2021-2026) into concrete actions and introducing evidence-based methods and targeted programmes of prevention.
As a result of the meeting, participants welcomed continuation of the planned activities related to the initiation of the pilot prison based Therapeutic Community (TC) and expressed appreciation for the comprehensive Feasibility Study Report conducted by international and national TC expert team. Furthermore, partners underlined the importance of developing the Facilitator’s guidebook of the Positive Parenting Programme to further train specialists on national and municipal level and ensure continuity of the evidence-based programme.
The initiative was held as a part of the project “Strengthening the Role of Key Actors in Drug Prevention” which is implemented within the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2024–2027 and runs until the end of June 2026.
