Celebrating completion of three Council of Europe Projects

On 12 December 2023, the Council of Europe hosted a closing ceremony for three Projects, implemented in the framework of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2020-2023: "Promoting Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanisms in Georgia," "Enhanced Access to Legal Aid Services for Marginalized Population" and "Enhancing Implementation of Human Rights Practices and Education in Georgia."

The ceremony brought together representatives from Georgian state institutions, civil society, the diplomatic corps, international organisations, and other key stakeholders. The participants showcased and acknowledged the major accomplishments of the projects, while the key stakeholders emphasized the outcomes of the tangible support provided to the beneficiary institutions.

The event served as a chance for reflection and recognition for the collective efforts towards increasing awareness of legal professionals and the public at large on importance of mediation, enhancing access to legal aid services and providing legislative framework for implementation of restorative justice approaches. These efforts encompassed the advancement of human rights education in universities, law schools and national training institutions (NTIs), as well as the adoption of the National Execution Strategy and Action Plan designed to improve the execution of the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights rendered in respect of Georgia.

The ceremony featured interventions by key-note speakers, including the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia, Natalia Voutova, the Head of the Council of Europe Department of Implementation of Human Rights, Justice and Legal Co-operation Standards, Frederic Dolt, the Chairperson of Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Mikheil Sarjveladze, the Chairman of the Mediators Association of Georgia, Irakli Kandashvili and the Director of the Legal Aid Service, Mr Davit Simonia.
