Breaking the Silence: Ending Child Sexual Abuse Through Social & Behaviour Change

On 16-17 September 2025, the Council of Europe project on Combating Violence against Children in Georgia held a two-day training in Tbilisi, aimed at strengthening the child protection system in the country through integrating Social & Behaviour Change methodology  in the daily practices of professionals working for and with children.

The training brought together social workers from the Office of Resource Officers of Educational Institutions, along with independent local experts and professionals, including psychologists and lawyers. The participants had the opportunity to dive into real life scenarios, analyse behavioural challenges and apply evidence-based approaches to improve their response to cases of child sexual abuse they are confronted with.

The training was led by Natalia Voutova, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia, together with a national consultant, Rusudan Kvachantiradze.

Through interactive sessions, exercises, and role plays, the participants:

  • Gained an understanding of behavioural science principles;
  • Applied insights to their professional practice;
  • Strengthened their capacity for evidence-based child protection initiatives.

The Council of Europe will continue working together with national authorities and partner organisations to strengthen child protection mechanisms and ensure every child grows up in a safe and supportive environment.
