#EuropeGoesPurple: Key Campaign Components
1. Visibility Actions – Light Up in Purple (See detailed Lighting and Visibility Guide)
- Landmarks, buildings, parliaments, ministries, universities, public and private spaces lit purple on 8 November (or between 26 October and 8 November).
- Display of intersex symbols, flags, purple items, clothing.
- Photos shared online with hashtags: #EuropeGoesPurple #IntersexSolidarityDay #Intersex #WeGoPurple
- A campaign kit will provide technical guidance for lighting, ideas for participation, ready-to-use posters, and templates.
2. Digital and Social Media Campaign
- Daily content for 14 days: – a mix of testimonies, facts, and myth-busting posts, alongside resources, reports, and studies highlighting intersex realities and rights, all shared across platforms in simple, accessible formats.
- Challenges:
- “Why I Go Purple for Intersex Rights” - an online challenge inviting influencers, youth ambassadors, intersex advocates, allies, institutions, communities and individuals to post short videos or messages explaining why intersex equality matters to them.
- Purple Photo Challenge - encouraging individuals and institutions to share images of buildings, landmarks or spaces lit or decorated in purple, using the campaign hashtags.
- Amplification: engagement of intersex advocates, influencers, youth leaders, and institutional accounts to extend reach and visibility.
3. Media and Broadcast Outreach
- Partnerships with TV and radio broadcasters for interviews, debates, and special programming around the awareness days.
- Screenings of intersex documentaries or films followed by TV panel discussions.
- Production and dissemination of Council of Europe videos on campaign themes.
- Press kits, op-eds, and interviews with intersex advocates, experts, and institutional representatives.
4. Discussions and Educational Engagement
- Public discussions, expert panels, professional roundtables, lectures, and workshops.
- Exhibitions combining art by intersex artists or about intersex realities with factual information.
- Film screenings and conversations with creators, advocates or experts.
- Book corners and storytelling sessions highlighting intersex literature and testimonies.
5. Institutional and Political Engagement
- Public endorsement by public authorities of the forthcoming Recommendation and its dissemination through institutional and professional networks (judiciaries, professional associations, NHRIs, ombudspersons, schools of public administration).
- Initiation of events by ministries, municipalities, and national institutions, including discussions and awareness sessions in cooperation with intersex-led CSOs.
- Support by public authorities for intersex civil society initiatives during the campaign.
- Visible participation of parliaments, ombudspersons, NHRIs, municipalities, and professional bodies in campaign actions such as purple displays and community events.
