Directors of European prison and probation services from the 46 Council of Europe’s member states have met in Kraków (Poland) on 24 and 25 September 2025 for the 30th edition of the annual Conference.
The 30th Council of Europe Conference of Directors of Prison and Probation Services (CDPPS) was held under the theme “Can we move away from the overuse of penal sanctions?”. The event was co-organised by the Council of Europe and the Polish Ministry of Justice & Penitentiary Administration, and is also attended by experienced European researchers, practitioners and NGOs.
Participants have addressed issues such as the use of data and risk assessment tools to reform penal policies, the promotion of positive health and trauma informed care, children with imprisoned parents, and the strategic approach by prison and probation services to crisis management.
The President of the Committee of the Prevention of Torture, Alan Mitchell, spoke at the closing session.
