The Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) has published today an assessment of the framework to prevent corruption and address conflicts of interest of the Council of Europe's Conference of International Non-Governmental Organisations (INGOs).
GRECO recommends a number of measures, including the drawing up of a code of conduct for the members of the Conference, which would be periodically updated and include concrete examples of good practices and how to handle problematic situations.
The INGOs Conference asked for this expertise following the response of the Parliamentary Assembly to allegations of corruption that might have affected certain activities and involved non-governmental organisations.
The report identifies four areas where improvements are desirable: transparency of the Conference’s activities and general accountability; rules of conduct for the members; supervision and compliance of the members with the rules of conduct; awareness-raising in respect of integrity standards.
