Back Conference addresses community involvement in prison and probation work

The 21st Council of Europe Conference of Directors of Prison and Probation Services – which is being held in Zaandam (Netherlands) on 14 and 15 June – is addressing community involvement in prison and probation work, including the role of families of offenders and the need to counter the negative effects of imprisonment on their children.

The conference brings together directors of prison and probation services of the Council of Europe member and observer states, international organisations, experts, researchers and civil society representatives. Prison overcrowding and ways of involving the community in dealing with radicalisation of prisoners are also be on the agenda.

The conference is hosted by the Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice and the Dutch Custodial Institutions Agency.

On 13 June the Pompidou Group held a side event on drugs in prison.
