PACE urges Russia to release Ukrainian servicemen, ensure free passage in the Sea of Azov and Kerch Strait

The Parliamentary Assembly has urged Russia to immediately release Ukrainian servicemen, to ensure freedom of passage in the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait, and to refrain from violence in the area.

Approving a resolution based on a report by Andreas Nick (Germany, EPP/CD) after an urgent debate, the Assembly said both Russia and Ukraine should respect the 2003 treaty governing use of these waters.

PACE recalled that both Russia and Ukraine, as Council of Europe member States, had committed themselves to solve their conflicts peacefully.

The parliamentarians said the bridge over the Kerch Strait built by Russia was illegal, and reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
