The main aim is to contribute to the protection of human rights in Turkey by increasing the institutional capacity of Turkish authorities, primarily of the Department of Human Rights of the Ministry of Justice in order to support the implementation and reporting of the “Action Plan on Human Rights”. The project will focus on three thematic areas of the Action Plan on Human Rights (the right to liberty and security, the right to a fair trial and freedom of expression) and support the national efforts carried out with a participatory approach under the light of the results, findings and assessments of action’s activities to be implemented in the selected areas.

The main partner of the Action is the Department of Human Rights of the Ministry of Justice. Other beneficiaries of the action are: the Ministry of Justice; the Ministry of Interior; the Justice Academy; Turkish Judiciary and the Relevant Public Authorities; Human Rights institutions; Lawyers; Journalists; Academics and Civil society organisations. 

The following results are expected:

  • Turkish authorities and relevant stakeholders apply new knowledge and methods to better implement, monitor and evaluate results of the Action Plan on Human Rights in relation to the right to liberty and security, the right to a fair trial and freedom of expression;
  • Cooperation among relevant stakeholders is enhanced.
