Since 2013, Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay has been an Ombudsperson responsible for the protection of national minorities living in Hungary, she has gained extensive experience in dealing with and understanding of the situation of different disadvantaged social groups, and the pressing need of social inclusion. She has served her first mandate as a member of the Advisory Committee of the FCNM 2016-2020.
Ms. Sándor-Szalay obtained her Master’s in Law from University of Pécs. She is a Humphrey Fellow (DHFP, Duke University, 2023, Human Rights and Social Justice).
She is a university professor (International Public Law, European Law) with nearby forty years of teaching experience at the University of Pécs, Faculty of Law. Her interest include human rights, minority rights, social inclusion strategies. Since 2004 she has been a visiting professor at the Babeș-Bolyai University Cluj-Napoca and since 2017 at the Vest University of Timișoara. Over the years she has taught at various universities in Europe.
