Ingeborg Birnie-Havenga is a Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Education at the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow; UK) where she lectures on minority languages and intercultural understanding and awareness. She holds a PhD in sociolinguistics focussing on the promotion of Scottish Gaelic in public domains from the University of Aberdeen and sits on a number of steering groups and committees which support the promotion of minority languages in Scotland. She is the Rapporteur of the UNESCO International Decade of Indigenous Languages Ad-hoc Group 1 which focusses on the provision of education and domains for Indigenous Languages.
