On 4 December 2025, the Second Vice-Chair of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities, David Smith, took part in a discussion event organised by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. The event focused on the recommendations issued to Finland in the Advisory Committee’s Sixth Opinion, the corresponding Resolution of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe,* as well as the findings of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) in its latest report on Finland.

Bringing together representatives of public authorities, advisory boards, national minorities, academia, the supreme overseers of legality and ombudspersons, as well as civil society organisations, the discussion formed part of the Government of Finland’s commitment to conduct an annual review of recommendations addressed to the country.

A summary of the discussions will be prepared by the organisers after the event and submitted to the Government of Finland.
