In January 2025, the Council of Europe launched the second phase of its “Ending Violence Against Women and Promoting Gender Equality in Armenia” project, running through 2025-2026. The project will continue to focus on empowering refugee women and girls, particularly by facilitating their active participation in political, public, and social life, and ensuring their protection from violence. Efforts will prioritise their socio-economic integration, including active involvement in community life. Building on the success of the first phase, the project will also support and encourage refugee-led civil society organisations, recognising their vital role in fostering sustainable change.

Since November 2024, a grantee of the “Fostering Women’s Access to Justice in Türkiye” has been conducting awareness-raising sessions to empower women in vulnerable situations, particularly those facing intersectional challenges.
The sessions focus on strengthening participants' understanding of rights and protection mechanisms available to earthquake-affected, displaced, and vulnerable women, including victims of violence against women and domestic violence from Syrian, Afghan, and Turkish backgrounds. Priority is given to Syrian women under Temporary Protection and individuals in precarious circumstances due to the earthquake.
Key topics covered include preventing violence against women and domestic violence, combatting child marriage, accessing legal aid, and understanding national legislation on gender-based violence. So far, 294 women have participated, gaining essential knowledge to navigate justice and protection systems.
The sessions were organised by the Association for Social Development and Aid Mobilization within the scope of the "Strengthening the access to legal aid mechanisms for women" project funded by the action “Fostering women’s access to justice in Türkiye”, implemented under the EU/CoE Joint Programme "Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye".
