MEDICRIME Convention presented as a key tool to tackle online sales of falsified medical products in Belgrade

From 10 to 12 March 2026, the MEDICRIME Convention was highlighted as an effective instrument in the fight against the online sale of falsified medical products during a workshop held in Belgrade, Serbia. Organised under the EU funded project “Support for Internal Market”, the event brought together representatives from Serbia’s law-enforcement, judicial and health authorities, alongside international organisations such as Europol and INTERPOL, and private sector stakeholders. The aim was to strengthen operational capacities to combat online crimes that threaten public health.

Discussions focused on practical approaches to investigating and prosecuting cases involving falsified medical products with particular emphasis on forensic tools and open-source intelligence. The MEDICRIME Convention was presented as a robust legal and cooperation framework, enabling cross-border action to protect public health and uphold victim’s rights. The Convention’s openness to all states worldwide and its relevance in addressing the global challenge of falsified medical products sold online were also underlined.

The workshop reaffirmed the essential role of the MEDICRIME Convention in promoting international cooperation, prevention and effective enforcement against criminal activities that compromise the integrity of the medical supply chain.
