Back The role of emotional intelligence in teachers’ understanding of immigrants (asylum seekers) and developing skills and attitudes for respecting diversity

This resource focuses on the development of emotional intelligence in learners in order to prevent discrimination against immigrants and asylum seekers. It fosters the learners’ abilities to reflect and act on their own and on others’ emotions and thoughts as well as how to utilise and manage emotions to develop positive social relationships. The training resource also assists learners in developing strategies for active opposition against discriminating attitudes and feelings to ensure inclusion of vulnerable groups. The training unit employs methods for personal reflection, individual and group work, discussions and role play as well as poster design and presenting results in a group.

This resource can be used for teachers already in service as well as for training designed for teacher trainers. Its materials are applicable to all school ages and are not limited to one specific subject or curriculum.
