Through 18-22 August, a Summer School was held in Chernivtsi for representatives of active civil society organisations and self-government bodies working with internally displaced persons and returnees to Ukraine.
The training was organised as part of the Council of Europe Project “Facilitating access to human rights and essential services for internally displaced persons and returnees to Ukraine” jointly with the NGO “GROUP OF INFLUENCE” and in cooperation with the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine.
The aim of the event was to strengthen capacities and establish effective cooperation between self-government bodies and civil society organisations in order to better ensure the rights and access to services for people forcibly displaced by the war.
The Summer School trainers, who are national consultants for the Council of Europe Project, helped participants familiarize with the European standards and Ukrainian legislation in the field of IDP protection, learn about the activities of the Register of Damage for Ukraine, and obtain practical tools for working at the local level.
Key topics covered included assessing the impact of local programs on the needs of IDPs, methods of advocacy and local participation through IDP councils and cooperation within a coalitions of civil society organisations, improving information accessibility, techniques for countering professional burnout, and applying a trauma-informed approach in the context of access to human rights.
The training used resources developed within the framework of the Council of Europe projects “Facilitating access to human rights and basic services for internally displaced persons and returnees in Ukraine” and “Youth for Democracy in Ukraine”, namely:
- a series of posters on resilience and recovery;
Based on the results of the Summer School, the participants, with the support of the team of trainers, drafted inputs to the joint document related to the necessary state policy measures on the protection of rights and access to essential services for internally displaced persons.
