Thematic workshop 4: Women preventing cybercrime – preventing cybercrime against women
10 NOVEMBER, 16.30-18.00
The most effective way to avoid the harm – human, financial and reputational – caused by cybercrime is to prevent such crimes being committed in the first place. A comprehensive approach to prevention involves a wide range of actions, from technical solutions to strengthen cybersecurity and protect computer systems from attack to awareness raising on how to stay safe online and recognise attempted online crimes. As women are both targeted by, and likely to fall victim to, certain types of cybercrime, it is important that prevention efforts consider women’s particular circumstances. Bringing women into processes to devise and implement prevention strategies and actions helps to ensure that they reflect and respond to women’s needs.
Starting from the basis that ‘prevention is better than cure’, this workshop will identify gaps and good practices in preventing cybercrime against women, and explore how women can play a stronger role in criminal justice and other efforts to prevent cybercrime.
This workshop is co-hosted by the African Union Cybersecurity Experts Group.
