EOOH podcast discusses CoE’s work on combating hate speech and newly adopted recommendation of the Committee of Ministers

In the podcast the Council of Europe and its work on preventing and combating hate speech is presented. The Council of Europe secretariat elaborates why hate speech is a major concern for its member states, referring to country monitoring reports of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance and case law of the European court of human rights. 

The podcast present the recently adopted Committee of Ministers Recommendation CM/Rec(2022)16 on Combating Hate Speech and elaborates on its comprehensive and multi-stakeholder approach and the importance on non-legal measures such as awareness raising, human rights education, media literacy and Counter speech. Various concrete tools to counter hate speech are introduced, including the We CAN 4 Human Rights Speech online tools and the new Youth campaign ‘Democracy Here, Democracy Now’.
