The capacity of the staff of the Office of Attorney General (OAG) was further strengthened through a pilot training programme on prosecutorial strategies on how to plead the case in criminal cases involving a trial by jury. The topic was identified as one of the key priorities for prosecutors in the training needs assessments conducted by the OAG.
The training was delivered jointly by a senior UK prosecutor and a Maltese judge and included brief lectures on prosecutorial strategies of addressing the jury, examination and cross-examination of witnesses and group exercises on two case studies.
This training is part of the project’s support to enhance the professional development opportunities of the OAG of Malta.
The EU-CoE Joint Project “Attorney General and State Advocate in Malta - Implementation of action plan of offices re-organisation” is co-funded by the European Union via the Technical Support Instrument, and implemented by the Council of Europe, in cooperation with the European Commission.
