Due to the COVID 19 crisis and in view of the difficult to find a common date in the autumn (as European Heritage Days take place between the end of August and mid-October throughout Europe), it was decided to postpone the Rendez-vous aux jardins 2020 to Friday 4 (a day more specifically dedicated to schoolchildren), Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 June 2021. The theme chosen in 2020 "The transmission of knowledge" will be maintained in 2021 as 23 countries already confirmed this year their wish to participate in such event: some countries have already announced they will prepare it through national events still in 2020.
The aim of such postponment is above all to continue the investment of all those involved in this cultural event, at regional, national and European level. The richness of the selected theme for the 2020 edition will be an opportunity to promote fruitful exchanges between the public and the actors of the gardens (owners, gardeners, botanists...) who work throughout the year to restore, conserve, create, maintain and enhance this green heritage. Last but not least, this theme will particularly highlight the commitment of all the professionals, their knowledge, their know-how, their experiences, their skills.
A study day on this theme will be proposed to all the organizers in February 2021.
This extra time may also allow to exchange and pursue our cooperation around the Europe of gardens, through the HEREIN Network in the Garden (and the present website dedicated to this theme of historic gardens), the MOOC Gardens: a heritage to be protected and enhanced (currently available only in French) and of course the continuation of the Rendez-vous aux jardins in the forthcoming years.
