1958 - The Hague

The Hague townThe Hague is the seat of the government of the Netherlands. It is in the province of South Holland near the North Sea.

In 1948 the city hosted The Hague Congress or “Congress of Europe” which gave the incentive for the process of European unification.

The Hague is the international city of peace and justice with 160 international organisations employing some 14,000 persons dedicated to the cause of world peace. As far away as Sarajevo, Nairobi and Kabul, “The Hague” stands for hope: hope for millions of people that the crimes committed against them will not go unpunished. Hope for a future of peace.

The city is twinned with Bethlehem (Palestine), Bratislava (Slovakia) and Warsaw (Poland).
