1988 - Aalborg

The Aalborg townAalborg is a Danish cosmopolitan town in the North Jutland region, on the southern shore of Denmark’s longest fjord, the Limfjord.  It is a university town which is also famous for its carnival, the largest in Scandinavia.

Aalborg received the award for its very many dynamic twinnings involving all areas of activity.  No less than 21 (now over 33) twinning agreements have enabled Aalborg to forge close ties with its twin towns in Europe and worldwide.  Its motto is “Friendship without borders”.
