Strengthening Democratic Citizenship Education in Albania at the EU Fair

Europe week 2024 in Albania, kicked off in Shiroka, Shkodra on 4 May.  At the Council of Europe stand, dedicated to human rights, inclusiveness and diversity, a number of successful projects implemented in Albania through collaboration with local and international partners were showcased. The project “Strengthening Democratic Citizenship Education in Albania” was prominently featured along other projects implemented by the Council of Europe Office in Tirana.  We were honoured to have a thought-provoking discussion with EU Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, during his visit to our stand.

As the EU Fair continued its journey to Tirana for Europe Day, the team shared with the many visitors at the fair, information on the achievements for democratic culture and the contribution to strengthening democratic citizenship in pre-university education in Albania.

Students from Qemal Stafa high school joined the fair by setting up an information corner on the “Fake vs Fact” Info Lab exhibition to raise awareness about media literacy. On Europe Day, students from Sami Frashëri high school, presented at the Council of Europe Office in Tirana work that they had prepared during a study visit to Strasbourg exploring the themes of human rights and European values.

Both schools are longstanding pilot schools for the Council of Europe's project “Strengthening Democratic Citizenship Education in Albania” financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
