Back Session at Educ@tech Expo Fair in Paris

The French Ministry of Education, the Council of Europe's Education Department and the French Data Protection Authority (the CNIL’s Digital Education Unit) jointly organised a session entitled "Promoting the development of ethical frameworks to support equitable partnerships between educational institutions and the private sector to foster digital citizenship", at the Educ@tech Expo Fair in Paris on November 16, 2023
Session at Educ@tech Expo Fair in Paris

The session served to introduce the Guidelines to support equitable partnerships between education institutions and the private sector, as well as its relevance for Recommendation CM/Rec (2019)10 on developing and promoting digital citizenship education, where the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers highlighted the significant role of business enterprises in creating the appropriate conditions for digital citizenship.

The aim of the session was to promote a structured dialogue between all stakeholders in education and to introduce initiatives demonstrating support for the Guidelines and for the principles of digital citizenship education in these public-private partnerships in light of Council of Europe's work.

The Ministry of National Education, academic authorities, the experimental local digital territories (12 TNE), the CNIL, individual EdTech and start-ups, and EdTech France trade association showcased some 10 sense-making practices to illustrate the ethical aspects supporting existing partnerships between educational institutions and the private sector that contribute to the promotion of digital citizenship.

The audience which accounted some 80 participants proved keen interest in these presentations and raised a lot of questions on the benefits and difficulties encountered in such partnerships. The exchange helped drawing lessons learned and success stories.

Several of the demonstrated successful partnerships of public and private sectors could be invited to sign the Council of Europe’s Statement of Commitment as a public demonstration of their support for the Guidelines and the principles of digital citizenship education within education for putting them at the core of their collaboration.
