Curricula experts from the Institute for Education Improvement and members of the action’s Steering Committee visited the Andorran Ministry of Education and several schools in Andorra and Barcelona from 30 May to 3 June.

This peer exchange and study visit, organised within the Quality education for all action in Serbia, was an opportunity for policy makers from Serbia to learn about the systemic integration of the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (RFCDC) in all aspects of formal education. The delegation was welcomed by Ester Vilarrubla, Minister of education and higher education of the Principality of Andorra.

As the action aims to expand its activities into the higher education sector and pre-service teacher training, the curriculum of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona proved to be a good model to adapt to local needs in Serbia. Policy makers also observed classes and had exchanges with professionals in the schools both in Andorra and Barcelona and saw how teachers and students benefited from a curriculum that is interweaved with competences for democratic culture.

This visit marked the finalisation of work in Serbia that started in October 2020 when the experts from the Institute had their first meeting with an expert from the Ministry of Education in Andorra with the aim of connecting RFCDC with a number of curricular subjects in Serbia. The result of this work is a guidebook “Guidelines for integration of RFCDC in selected subjects of the national curricula” that is a unique instrument available to all teachers in Serbia.
