Forward steps in higher education at the Council of Europe: recent meetings in Strasbourg on recognition of qualifications

In the last two days the Council of Europe hosted three meetings, all closely linked to the important topics of the recognition of academic qualifications.

The Lisbon Recognition Convention Bureau at its meeting on 25 March launched the process of an update of the “Revised Code of Good Practice in the Provision of Transnational Education”, published in 2007 to address new challenges in the TNE. This initiative underscores the commitment to safeguard the interests of students, employers and others who may be concerned by qualifications awarded through transnational arrangements. It follows up on the recommendations of the 2nd monitoring report of the Lisbon Recognition Convention and is part of LRC the work programme.

The focus of the meeting of the ENIC Bureau and NARIC Advisory Board was the preparation for the annual ENIC NARIC meeting, which will take place on 23-25 June 2024 in Naples (Italy). Discussion encompassed the meeting’s content, programme and organisational logistics, ensuring a well-rounded and impactful event. Additionally, there was an exchange of views with the Chair of the European Students’ Union (ESU) on how to enhance further cooperation. ELCORE’s role in ensuring seamless communication within the networks was a central topic, with discussions aimed at identifying strategies to bolster support for the centres.
