The Council of Europe’s Digital Citizenship Education Survey 2020 sets out to discover more about how parents support the competence-building process to help their children become responsible digital citizens. Subjects included the topics of most concern to them, where they turn for information, and their wish list in terms of tools and guidance. The questionnaire was developed in 2019, and tested in five focus groups, in Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Greece and France.
The Survey was launched on 15 May 2020 in 23 languages and ran for 6 weeks. COVID-19 confinement was a challenging time for parents. It may, however, have enabled a greater number of parents to provide input, resulting in more than 21,000 responses from the 47 Council of Europe member States.
Learn more about the major challenges parents face, the discussions they have with their children about online activities, and the support they would like to receive to facilitate their task. The provisional version of the Digital Citizenship Education Survey 2020 is available here. It is currently being enriched through interviews with parents. The final report will be published in early 2021.
