Corporal punishment at school: the origins of its abolition in the United Kingdom

The case “Campbell and Cosans v. the UK” led to the abolition of corporal punishment on children in all state-supported education in the United Kingdom. The video showcasing this important milestone is now available in 10 languages.

The video was made in the context of a European project “Learning activities for secondary schools on the case law of the European Court of Human Rights”, which resulted in a publication which is available here. This human rights education textbook presents 12 learning activities based on landmark decisions of the European Court of Human Rights. It aims to familiarise secondary school students with the key principles of European law related to human rights to help them understand how the European Court of Human Rights works.
