“Quality Education for All” Round Table in North Macedonia: A Collaborative Effort of Civil Society Organizations

The recent round table, organized by the “Quality Education for All – North Macedonia”, marked a significant milestone in the journey towards educational reform in North Macedonia. This event brought together key representatives from civil society organizations (CSOs), reaffirming a collective commitment to elevating educational standards and inclusivity.

Central to the round table discussions was the comprehensive analysis of the Education Strategy 2018 – 2025, as presented in the mapping report. This report provided a detailed examination of the current implementation status of the strategy, focusing on the development and execution of an inclusive, multicultural education system. The emphasis was on fostering democratic values, upholding human rights, ensuring gender equality, respecting diversity, and enhancing ethnic cohesion within the educational framework.

An important session of the event was the in-depth analysis of gender equality in education in North Macedonia. This analysis underscored the importance of achieving gender parity in the educational sector, highlighting the challenges and successes in ensuring equitable opportunities and treatment for all genders. The discussion stressed the need for systemic changes to address gender biases and stereotypes, advocating for a gender-sensitive curriculum and an environment supportive of all students' interests and talents.

The round table highlighted the necessity of collaborative efforts in shaping and implementing inclusive and equitable education policies. The insights and recommendations derived from the CSO representatives were instrumental in refining the educational strategies, making them more adaptive to the diverse needs of the student population. The meeting concluded in a common agreement to incorporate the insights and recommendations acquired from the discussions into the final Mapping Report.

The Council of Europe, in collaboration with local CSOs and educational experts, demonstrates a profound dedication to ensuring accessible, high-quality education for every individual in the country. This commitment, especially towards promoting gender equality in education, is integral to building a more equitable and just society, aligning with the broader European educational standards and objectives.

The project, “Quality Education for All - North Macedonia,” is implemented by the Council of Europe and funded by Germany, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of North Macedonia. The project will run from December 2022 to November 2025.
