On 7-8 November 2013 the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine organized the introductory course of the training of trainers for prosecutors on application of the CPC of Ukraine in line with the European standards. The training was held in cooperation with the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine and the National Academy of Prosecutors of Ukraine within the framework of the CoE Project “Support to the criminal justice reform in Ukraine” funded by the Government of Denmark.

The activity aimed at building up a network (group) of prosecutors – trainers/moderators of sharing of experience between their colleagues to promote the application of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine (CPC) in the light of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) case law and train/consult their peers relying on such approach.

Mr Yevgen Blazhivskyi, Rector of the National Academy of Prosecutors of Ukraine and Ms Olena Lytvynenko, Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine opened the event with the welcome speeches. The Council of Europe consultants Mr Jeremy McBride, Barrister, Monckton Chambers, London, Former Chairman of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, Mr Vitaliy Kasko, Partner of “Arzinger” law firm in Ukraine, and the judge of the High Specialised Court of Ukraine Ms Natalia Marchuk, highlighted the standards of the European Convention of Human Rights relevant to application of the CPC provisions and discussed specific CPC implementation issues in the light of the case law of the ECtHR.
